INTRAUTERINE SPERM INJECTION (IUI)

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a procedure that treats infertility. IUI boosts the chances of pregnancy by placing specially prepared sperm directly in the uterus, the organ in which a baby develops. Another name for the procedure is artificial insemination.

Phase 1: monitor follicle development and inject ovulation drugs.

There are 2 ways to do it:

• Natural cycle monitoring: starting from day 2 of the menstrual cycle, the wife will have an ultrasound to monitor natural egg maturation. When the follicle size is ≥ 18mm, she will be injected with ovulation stimulating drugs, This method only applies to women with regular menstruation.
• Ovarian stimulation: starting from day 2 of the menstrual cycle, the wife is given orally or injected ovarian stimulation medication continuously for 10-14 days. During this process, the customer is scheduled for an ultrasound to monitor the maturation of the follicles until the follicle size is ≥ 18mm and will be injected with ovulation stimulation medication. The benefit of ovarian stimulation is to create the development of one or more ovarian follicles to increase the possibility of pregnancy, often applied to women with ovulation disorders or anovulation or polycystic ovary syndrome.

Phase 2: injecting sperm into the uterus

After 36-38 hours of injection of ovulation stimulation medicine, the customer will be given an appointment for the sperm injection day. On this day, the husband will take a sperm sample and put it in a sample bottle. The sperm sample will be sent to the andrology room to be filtered and washed. After 2 hours, the sperm will be injected into the wife’s uterus. After injecting sperm for 25-30 minutes, customers can leave to monitor the results.

The method of SPERM INJECTION INTO THE UTERUS is usually performed for a maximum of 3-4 cycles and combined with ovarian stimulation. If it fails, it is recommended to switch to in vitro fertilization combined with sperm injection into the egg cytoplasm ( ICSI).
